"Ìysterium" (2006) - is a continuation of Igor Zavadsky’s performing anthology where accordion’s capabilities have been demonstrated in different genres at the most: classics, jazz, avant-garde, modern
arrangements of folk and popular music. Like the previous album, the new one has been recorded at different musician’s concerts during the year and also consists of two CD’s. Most of the first CD’s pieces have been recorded in the
two Kyiv concert halls: Palace of Arts “Ukraine” (20.01.2006) and Actor’s House (during three concerts in 2006). Besides pieces performed solo, arranged for variety, as well as accompanied by chorus and symphonic orchestra, Igor Zavadsky’s
button accordion plays for the first time: in duet with pipe; in trio with pipe and piano accordion; with a quartet of saxophonists; with saxophone accompanied by a symphonic orchestra; with double-bass and a group of percussion instruments;
accompanied by sounds of nature. On the second CD 13 performers from six countries of the world demonstrate their high mastery: Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, China, Germany and Italy (6 - button accordion, 6 - piano accordion,
1 - accordion).
For ancient Greeks and Romans it was a mystical cult of gods, and only the initiated ones could take part in it. It was a spiritual drama which arose in X century from mimic spectacles performed in churches to explain the Old Testament’s actions.
In XIII century, being in full bloom, it appeared on the squares of towns, so coming to their dwellers and prefiguring the modern theatre. There was an entire spiritual tradition within which actors came upon a theatrical stage and, depending on the
genre, played grand performances: comedies, tragedies or dramatic pieces. Mysterium always finished with joy and victory over darkness. Apart from their philosophical basis, such performances also had to influence the public psychologically:
spectators, purified and brightened, got back to their daily routine with renewed energy. The performances were a success due to extraordinary and creative approach multiplied by work and big patience. Igor Zavadsky demonstrates today a
similar approach to his concerts as to a theatrical performance. The “Mysterium” album’s compositions performed by him sound deeply and appealingly.
